Pilgrim Tourism in West India
West India comprises of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa state. These states are one of the most favourites amongst pilgrims and tourists. Some very important pilgrimage centres are located in these states. West India houses numerous tourist attractions; these pilgrimage centres motivate the pilgrims to visit these attractions also.
Shirdi
The blissful land of Sai Baba, the Shirdi town is situated in Rahata Tahasil in Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. The town is popularly known as the abode of Guru Shirdi Sai Baba and date backs to the legend of 19th century. It is an important pilgrimage center of the people and devotees of different religions hanker after to seek the blessing of Sai Baba.
Haji Ali
Dedicated to Allah, Haji Ali is a mosque and dargah (tomb) situated on the small island on the coast of World in Mumbai. The religious power of the place is so strong that devotees of all caste and communities stand in queue to offer prayer to Allah and to pay their tribute to the Sufi saint who lies buried here.
Siddhivinayak Temple
The Siddhivinayak Temple is a very famous temple in Mumbai. It is also known as Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple. This temple is situated at Prabhadevi in Mumbai. It is a two hundred years old Temple. People believe that Lord Ganesh of Siddhivinayak Temple fulfills the desire of His worshipers.
Alandi
Alandi is truly a pilgrim center. The Palakhi in the month of Ashadh is very popular and many people walk almost 150 kms. From Alandi to Pandharpur. Alandi is situated on the banks of river Indrayani and the ghat behind the samadhi temple is very beautiful. This temple was built in 1570.
Trimbakehwar Temple
Trimbakeshwar, an ancient Hindu Pilgrim centre, is located in the Nasik district of Maharashtra state in India. Trimbakeshwar is famous for housing one of the twelve Jyothirlinga temples in India dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Gujarat

Gujarat is one of the most famous states of India. Gujarat is like a magnet for immigrants, trade and colonial powers and has also been a significant center for people of different faiths.
Jama Masjid
The Jama Masjid was built by Ahmed Shah in 1423. The building materials were provided to this mosque by the demolished Hindu and Jain temples. The 260 columns support the 15 domes at different elevations.
Ahmed Shah Mosque
Sultan Ahmed Shah mosque in Ahmedabad is a religious place for Muslims that is well known for its architectural designing. It was constructed in the year 1414 A.D. by Sultan Ahmed Shah, the founder of Ahmedabad city.
Sidi Saiyad's Mosque
Located near Lal Darwaza in Ahmedabad, the mosque of Sidi Sayed is one of the most prominent mosques in the Ahmedabad city. Constructed in the year 1573, the mosque was established by Sidi Sayed, a slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah.
Hathee Singh Temple
Constructed in the year 1850 AD, Hathee Singh temple is a very famous Jain temple. It has been named after its founder Seth Hathee Singh, a prosperous Jain merchant. Hathee Singh Jain temple of Ahmedabad was built in the dedication of the 15th Jain Trithanakara named Dharmnath.
Dwarkadhish Temple / Jagat Mandir
Jagat Mandir is one of the most significant places of interest in the city of Rajkot. This temple is of special importance to the people in the state of Gujarat as well as the remaining part of India who follow the religion of Hinduism.
Mount Girnar
Mount Girnar has around 866 temples that can be reached by climbing around 8,000 steps. The base of the mountain is known as Girnar Taleti. Pilgrims go trekking up the mountain, which is best started early in the morning. Ascending up the hill, one will pass through various Hindu and Jain temples.
Sun Temple
SUN-worship in Gujarat is known from remote antiquity as in whole of India. In Gujarat prevalence of the sun-cult is indicated by the number of inscriptions found. This is further strengthened by the distribution of monumental remains as also the discovery of a number of stone sculptures of the pantheon from various parts of Gujarat dating from about 5th century B.C. to late mediaeval period.
Somnath Temple
Somnath Temple is one of the very ancient temples of India located in Gujarat and stands as a famous landmark in the Indian history. Somnath Temple is the ideal sacred place of the Hindus that survived the ravages of time. Many legends are attached to the Somnath Temple regarding its origin and existence.

Goa

Safa Masjid
One of the only two sixteenth-century Islamic monuments which managed to survive the excesses of the Inquisition, the Safa Masjid lies 2 km west of the centre of the town of Ponda, in Shahpur district. The elegant structure was built in 1560 by Ibrahim Adil Shah, the Sultan of Bijapur.
Devaki Krishna Temple
The unique feature of the Devaki Krishna Temple is that this is the only temple in India where Lord Krishna is worshipped alongside mother Devaki as Devaki Krishna.
Mahalaxmi Temple, Bandivade
The village of Bandode or Bandivade is the location of a number of temples among which is the large and beautiful temple of Goddess Mahalaxmi. Bandode is approximately 22 kms from the capital city of Panaji, off the main road to Ponda, at Farmagudi.
Mahalsa Temple
The temple of Mahalsa Narayani is located at the small village of Mardol, 22 kms from Panaji, the capital city. Originally, the deity was housed in a temple at an ancient shrine in village of Verna which is now the site of an industrial estate.
Church of St Francis of Assisi, Goa
This church is the former palace of the Archbishop that connects the Se Cathedral to the Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi. Just like Se Cathedral, facing west stands Church and Convent of St. Francis of Assisi built in 1521.
Basilica of Bom Jesus – Goa
Nine kilometers from Panaji, standing witness to a milestone event in the history of Christianity, is the world famous church of Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus. The church of Bom Jesus, "Good" or "Infant" Jesus, is known principally for the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. In 1946, it became the first church of India to be elevated to the status of Minor Basilica. One of the richest churches in Goa.
Cathedral Church in Goa
The Portuguese Viceroy Redondo commissioned the Se, or St. Catherine's' Cathedral, southwest of St. Cajetan's, to be "a grandiose church worthy of the wealth, power and fame of the Portuguese who dominated the seas from the Atlantic to the Pacific". Largest church in Asia, Se Cathedral is dedicated to St. Catherine as it was on St. Catherine's day, November 25, that Alfonso de Albuquerque, Portuguese Naval General conquered Goa.
