Bodhgaya or Bodh Gaya is a city in Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is famous for being the place of Buddha's attainment of Enlightenment. Historically, it was known as the Bodhimanda (ground round the Bodhi-tree), and there was a large monastic settlement there.

Nalanda in Bihar

Nalanda represents rich ancient legacy of knowledge in Bihar. Founded in the 5th century AD, Nalanda constitutes the most ancient university in the region. Buddha used to visit this place occasionally. Hieun Tsang stayed here in the 7th century AD and he is the one who created the atmosphere for further studies in the region. He is the one who established the excellence of education system and practicing of monastic life.

Kushinagar

Kushinagar is famous because of its affiliations with Buddha’s cremation.
